CHRIS FINNEY INTERVIEW (2005)

In 2005 I planned to go to New Orleans for the 3rd Tape Op Conference and somehow found Chris Finney on a conversation board for the conference attendees. Chris generously offered to show me around and helped me with lodging. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he was an engineer, producer and music teacher. So, we spent time going to the studio where he worked as well as the school he taught at in Tipitina's.
He was an amazing host and and a perfect subject for Engine Ears!

Chris has since won 2 grammy's and has co-founded the non-profit 30AMP Circuit, with renowned guitarist Charlie Hunter. He is currently adjunct professor of Music business at Tulane University in New Orleans and is an active member of the Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy, currently serving as a Chapter Governor, as well as Co-Chair of the Producers and Engineers wing.

His over 30 years of recording include working with Robert Plant, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, and New Orleans legends Dr. John, Harry Connick, Jr., Allen Toussaint, the Meters, and Fats Domino.He has been instrumental in kicking off and developing the recording careers of New Orleans funk-rock mainstays Galactic, Trombone Shorty, The Revivalists, Naughty Professor, and newcomers like SexualThunder! and Organized Crime.
